Custom Wooden Homestead Sign

A handcrafted outdoor homestead sign built with the weight, permanence, and character of a true mountain property marker. This custom wooden sign was made for our own home and designed to feel rooted in the land around it — rustic, substantial, weather-ready, and unmistakably one-of-a-kind.

This piece was built from solid wood and finished through a multi-step process to create its deep Appalachian character. The boards were cut, joined, sanded, stained, sealed, and carefully fire-finished to bring out the contrast of the grain, knots, and natural markings in the wood. The top and bottom edges were intentionally burned to create a bold charred effect, giving the sign a rugged, timeworn look while still preserving a refined handcrafted finish.

The sign was then coated with polyurethane for added outdoor protection and durability. Custom metal house numbers and a decorative wildlife accent were added to give the piece a personal, homestead-style identity. For permanent placement, the sign was mounted with heavy-duty metal rods and cemented into the ground, creating a strong, grounded installation designed to stand with presence at the entrance of a home, cabin, lodge, farm, or mountain property.
